Born in 1921 in India with the
given name, Dayavrat Sharma, he spent
his life studying the great beings and the ancient scriptures,
exploring
inner realms, and examining the nature of the Self and mind.

As a child he was fascinated with the nature and condition
of the mind. Playing with his friends was an opportunity to explore
hypnosis so he could learn about the mind. His ten-year-old playmates
were frequently hypnotized. By
14 years of age he was communicating with departed souls and traveling
in the astral realms. At 15, he published a best-selling book. As his
life
progressed he became a master hypnotist and learned the art of
astrology
and alchemy from the Indian masters.
For
16 years he taught English literature at a college of the University of
Agra in India, authored many successful Hindi books in fiction and
poetry
and was editor-in-chief of a prestigious, weekly magazine in New Delhi,
India. He was never interested in so-called success, recognition, or
financial
gains. As soon as he achieved mastery and success in a subject, he
moved
on, giving everything away. His life has truly been a dance of love and
joy, never staying for too long in any one place, playfully embracing
every
situation.
In
1970, he became a disciple of Baba Muktananda and regularly spent time
with him.
He
came to the U.S. in 1974 and lived in San Francisco for 14 years. While
living there, he gave hundreds of talks and workshops on spiritual
topics,
emotional healing, astral traveling, color therapy, astrology, etc. He
guided more than 6,000 people into past life recall. “Recalling our
past
lives wipes away the impressions that have programmed us. It’s a way of
wiping the slate clean.”
Then
Sharmaji stayed in Gurumayi Chidvilasananda's ashram for 14 years and
traveled
with her on many of her tours. “I was blessed to learn at the
feet
of the great Siddha Master Shri Gurumayi Chidvilasananda.” During those
years he contributed monthly articles to the Siddha Yoga publication, Neeleshwari.
It was during this time that he was called "Sharmaji" which is a way of
showing respect to him.
In
September, 2000, Sharmaji relocated to Key West where he gave talks and
meditation sessions to the public. His approach is fresh and
innovative.
All his writing and sayings are his original, creative offerings. He
says,
“If knowledge does not nourish the soul and purify the heart, then what
good is it? What good is wisdom if you are sad and heavy?” His unique
wisdom
has a penetrating and discriminating eye that is very transforming. He
is very unique because he gives wisdom wrapped up with love and
laughter.
There are no exceptions. His approach turns the most difficult, tense
situation
into one of laughter and lightheartedness. He spent his life responding
to the requests and needs of others. His talks are filled
with power, and in them he gives the secrets for transforming life into
a garden of joy and understanding. In his weekly meditation sessions
people
from a variety of backgrounds experienced their own inner divinity on a
regular basis.
“I
teach how to breathe, how to live, how to die, how to turn life itself
into a work of art, in short—how to be."
Sharmaji's
Transition
On
November 17, 2004 Sharmaji began his new life in a non-material form.
He was 83 years old. This
is a beginning, not an ending and he wants us to celebrate his
liberation.
Liberation was the most important thing to him.
While
we miss his form, we continue to drink of the divine energy he
conveyed.
He leaves us a large legacy of profound and enlightening talks filled
with
his wisdom and so Sharmaji Wisdom has manifested.
Reading
or watching him we find a door to another dimension opens for us. His
message
frequently reaches the heart. We plan to make his talks available to
you
on dvd, cd, and in books.
He
dictated this final message for everyone:
"I
will rest for some time, then I will give myself to awareness,
dedication
and work. Work never stops. I have a mission and it is never complete.
My goal is constant progress towards the development and exploration of
endless spiritual possibilities. They continue after leaving the body
because
I continue."
