Love
is not an emotion or a sentiment. It is the basic nature of the soul.
When
all emotions leave the soul and the winds of passion are quiet, when
all
greed, lust, hope and desire abandon the soul, love remains behind as
the
basic fabric of the soul...the stuff the soul is built of. As a light
it
illumines all directions evenly. As a sound it is low and soothing. As
a stream it is steady and uninterrupted.
Love
gets compounded and consequently adultered in greed as love for goods
and
money. In senses it becomes the pleasure and joy of the five elements.
In lust it becomes the thrill of touch. It is present in the enjoyment
of all the senses as pleasure. Love is eternal, pleasure is not. We
cling
to pleasure with our back to love, so we feel stranded in a desert when
pleasure, the mirage, vanishes.
Love
is either unconditional or it is not. Our true nature is love, just as
the nature of the sun is to shine. Sunlight falls on flowers and
garbage
alike. Love goes out to one and all, and it makes no distinctions. Like
the sun, it demands nothing. Our nature is to love. The nature of love
is to give.
Beyond
the remotest smell of a desire, love grows effulgently with a beatific
all-pervading smile of a blessing for all.
