"Love is a Moment"
"Question:
I haven't been feeling
very loving. I am trying to get clear what I want. I expect a lot of
myself and that closes my heart. How do I deal with that?
Sharmaji: If you love
someone, ask that person to sit by your side. Don't have any
opinions or agenda. Don't judge them. Just sit quietly with that
person. Something will flow from them to you.
Question: I just can't do
it. It is a nice idea. How do you do it?
Sharmaji: Just sit.
Question: What if I am still
sitting 10 to 20 years from now?
Sharmaji: Then something
very beautiful will happen. If we can just have this approach
something very beautiful will happen. When we are critical about the
person we love, then we can never love anyone. You will always
remember their angry and inconsiderate behavior. That is why I say
if you suffer from amnesia, you are the greatest lover. Love is a
moment. It is not your life.
Question: Are you advocating
love without romance?
Sharmaji: All romance is an
idealization of love which we create for our own benefit, so it
doesn't exist. Every real situation can become a romantic situation.
The greatest romantic situation is to sit with your lover very
quietly. You can't imagine how the hours will fly by. What can be
more romantic than that? It is very real. Without romance love is
nothing. It is not to idealize love. It is to find that ideal in
every moment."
